1 Corinthians 1:10
Memory Verse
And I encourage you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, in order that you all speak the same and there are no schisms among you, but you are put in order in the same mind and in the same opinion (1 Corinthians 1:10).
Schisms within the Church result from members who are carnal—focused on the desires from the flesh. Denominations and the separation of the saints into groups who follow men: “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ,” arise from this type of mindset. The Christ is not divided. We were immersed into the name of Christ, who was crucified (1 Corinthians 1:13). All others are ministers of Christ and should be treated as such.
Divisions of this nature are to be set aside from among the assemblies. This happens only when Christians grow spiritually by learning to focus on things above and take each step by the Holy Spirit, who will guide their conduct (Colossians 3:1–3).
A Spiritual mindset among the saints will bring a proper unity in the faith based upon a correct opinion that relates to true knowledge. As a result, saints will reject schisms stemming from denominations, the following of men, and their heresies.
