1 Corinthians 1:30
Memory Verse
But out from Him you are in Christ Jesus, who has become our wisdom from God, and likewise righteousness and sanctification and full redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30).
In Christ, we do not have wisdom based upon this world, nor from the traditions of men. Through the death of Christ on behalf of sins, God displayed His righteousness in deferring the penalty for previously committed sins (Romans 3:25). This is the wisdom of God: that through Christ, salvation would come, apart from works of the flesh.
Christ is now our righteousness, for His righteousness is imputed to us (Romans 4:22). Therefore, we act right because of who we are in Christ, not to obtain or maintain an appearance of our own righteousness.
In Christ, we are set apart unto God. This sanctification is a work of the Holy Spirit (2 Thessalonians 2:13). As those who are sanctified, we are to know how to possess our bodies in honor, abstaining from fornication, no longer following the ways of the Gentiles in the passions of strong desires (1 Thessalonians 4:3–5). God did not call us to uncleanliness, but to holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7).
In Christ, we now have full redemption, the forgiveness of our sins and trespasses (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14). Although we do not yet possess the full manifestation of our salvation, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day of full redemption (Ephesians 4:30; Romans 8:23).
With these things in mind, let us live out who we are in Christ, for He is our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and full redemption.
