And thus it stands written, “The first man, Adam, came to be unto a living soul.” The last Adam unto a life–giving spirit (1 Corinthians 15:4).
Adam is the first human, from whom all other humans derive life. When God created him, He made a human capable of propagation, passing on elements of his nature—body, soul, and spirit. This is why Adam’s trespass and sin brought both spiritual and physical death to all humans (Romans 5:12, 17).
On the other hand, through Christ’s resurrection, God made a new man—one whose head is righteous, and therefore so is the body. When we believe that Christ died on behalf of our sins and was raised on the third day, we are born again, taken out of Adam and placed into Christ.
Therefore, the first Adam brought death; the last Adam brings life.
