1 Corinthians 2:1
Memory Verse
And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come according to superiority of word or wisdom, announcing to you the mystery of the God (1 Corinthians 2:1).
A mystery, in biblical terms, is something God has hidden but now reveals (1 Corinthians 2:7–10). This revealed mystery is not shared through impressive human speech or wisdom. Instead, the message centers on Christ being crucified—meaning His death was on behalf of our sins, not based on our works of righteousness (which are our attempts to earn approval through good deeds) or worldly value. Jesus died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). His resurrection three days later shows God the Father accepted His sacrifice for us (Romans 4:25).
The true message of salvation avoids persuasive words rooted in human wisdom, philosophy, or deceptive speech. Salvation does not guarantee an easy life on earth. In fact, all who desire to live godly lives will face suffering (2 Timothy 3:12). Suffering for righteousness—meaning suffering for doing what is right before God—is an aspect of grace. God permits us to suffer for righteousness regardless of our merit (1 Peter 2:19). We share in Christ’s suffering, so we also share in His glory (1 Peter 4:13).
