1 Corinthians 2:15
Memory Verse
But the Spiritual [man] discerns all things, yet he himself is not discerned, 1 Corinthians 2:15.
One who is Spiritual is using the new mind he possesses in Christ and thereby relating to God in spirit and in truth (Romans 12:2; John 4:24). He is thus emanating the things from the Spirit in a rational, logical manner.
Emanate denotes origin or issuance from a source; a gradual or natural flow. When a grace believer is Spiritual, he is emanating the things that flow out from the Spirit of God. This is the only mindset by which a person can understand the things of God, for when the emotions are permitted to dictate understanding, the things of God become foolishness because they do not relate to the soul (1 Corinthians 2:14).
A person who is Spiritual cannot be examined by others so that they may discern the level of spirituality he possesses. Appearance has nothing to do with emanating the things of the Spirit; rather, it is a person’s actions that dictate their mindset.
The grace believer becomes Spiritual when he sets his frame of mind on the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God, and thereby seeks out the desires he receives from the Holy Spirit to work out the righteousness he now possesses in Christ (Colossians 3:1–2). As the word of the Christ richly dwells in the grace believer, he will express this mindset in actions (Colossians 3:16).
