For no one is able to set other foundation alongside the one laid, which is Jesus Christ, 1 Corinthians 3:11.
Those who seek to set another foundation seek to build their own followers. In light of the carnality of the Corinthian saints, Paul confronts their divisions based upon loyalties to men. Yet, who are these men except fellow servants through whom we believe? Some plant, some water—are they not the same in Christ? Both will receive their reward according to their labor. We are fellow workers in God’s field, not erecting our own building.
The foundation of the Church is built upon the death on behalf of sins and resurrection three days later of Jesus. It began on the day of Pentecost when Christ sent the Holy Spirit, and will continue until Christ calls His bride to meet Him in the air before the tribulation period comes upon men. Many will come and claim another revelation, a high level of discernment, a discovery of some mystery, along with many other methods, with the intent of laying a different foundation alongside the foundation that is laid, to draw away followers to themselves. Let us not be followers of men, but of God, building upon the one true foundation, which is Jesus Christ. This is done by living out from faith and applying the truth in Scripture for the grace believer, not usurping promises to other saints.
