The one who says he is in the light and is indifferent to his brother is in the darkness until now (1 John 2:9).
Christ’s commandment to the Church is to love fellow saints as He has loved us (John 13:34). He laid down His life for us; in like manner, we are to lay down our lives for fellow saints. Christ’s dedication is not directly focused on His physical death, but on the overall focus of His life, which He dedicates to the benefit of grace believers. Even now, after His death and resurrection, He continues to do what is best for the Church by advocating for and interceding with the Father on our behalf (Hebrews 7:25).
Although it is often translated as “hate,” this Greek word actually means indifference. Rather than a strong aversion or intense dislike, this is a lack of interest or concern for a fellow Christian.
