1 John 3:2
Memory Verse
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we will be. We know that when He is revealed, we will be like Him, because we will discern Him just as He is (1 John 3:2).
Since we are children, we are legitimately born ones from God, having experienced a birth from above (John 3:6–7. “Born again” found in numerous translations, means “Born from above” cf. John 3:31). Through this birth, our spirits are now alive unto God (1 Corinthians 6:17), enabling us to understand Spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:14–16). Our soul and body are not yet fully redeemed; therefore, we are not visibly in the state in which we will be when we receive our resurrected bodies and the salvation of our souls (Romans 8:23;1 Peter 1:8–9).
We now have this treasure in clay pots, which are brittle and weak (2 Corinthians 4:7). However, this does not limit the power of God that resides within us to live out the righteousness we have in Christ (2 Corinthians 12:9–10). It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me (Galatians 2:20).
When we see Christ, we will be like Him as we fully share in His resurrection. Since we have this hope, let us purify ourselves, setting aside the sins that so easily overcome us, and run the race set before us by taking full advantage of the salvation God has so graciously given to us in Christ.
