1 John 4:8
Memory Verse
The one who does not love does not know the God because the God is love (1 John 4:8)
The love of God is produced in the believer by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23). Those who are not characterized as seeking the best for other saints do not have an experiential knowledge of God.
This is not a love based upon human emotion, or sourced from the human nature, for the type of love that comes from our nature seeks the best for us, not for others. A man who is known for looking out for others’ best interests is only doing so because of his experience of the love of God in his own life.
Love is long-suffering, kind, not jealous, does not boast, and is not puffed up. Love will not act unbecoming, does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not count wrong, will not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth. Therefore, those who are characterized as loving will in long-suffering and kindness, seek the best for fellow Christians.
