1 John 5:11
Memory Verse
And this is the testimony, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son, 1 John 5:11.
We receive the witness of men, God’s testimony is greater than men (1 John 5:9). God the Father has testified that He has given His Son (1 John 5:10). The one who believes His testimony has the witness within himself, but the one who does not believe makes God a liar.
Through His Son, God has given us eternal life. Eternal life is God’s quality of life; a life without beginning or ending. The single act of love God expressed by sending His Son gave the world a savior (John 3:16). All who believe in Him will not perish but have eternal life; however, the one who does not believe will not see life but wrath (John 3:36).
It has been testified and authenticated by substantial evidence, both Biblical and secular, that Jesus walked upon this earth, died on behalf of sins, and was raised on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). After Jesus’ resurrection, He displayed Himself to the brethren, giving unquestionable evidence that He did in fact rise from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:5–8). While Christ was on earth, His works testified that God sent Him, and more so, that He is God in the flesh (John 10:25).
Scripture is a very interesting book. There is no other historical document with the level of evidence for its accuracy. Yet with all this evidence, men still choose to take the witness of men over the witness of God, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2). Men even change the gospel for salvation into a message that is palatable for those denying the testimony of God, making it a work-based salvation when God testifies that salvation is by faith through grace.
Since we accept the testimony of men, we ought to accept the testimony of one who is greater than men. Salvation comes by believing His testimony: Christ died on behalf of our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). This is the testimony of God, that we have eternal life through His Son.
