1 John 5:2
Memory Verse
Who is he who overcomes the world, if not he who believes that Jesus is the Son of the God? 1 John 5:2.
Jesus’ position as the Son of God does not indicate in any way that He was born from God. Since God is one and shares His glory with no one, for Jesus to be the Son of God, He must be God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 48:11). Sonship relates to position, not to birth (Hebrews 1:4).
The Jews (leaders of Israel) understood that when Jesus claimed He was the Son of God, He was making Himself equal with God (John 5:18). Even Satan knew that the person who possessed the body of Jesus was God, and tempted Him as such. “... Since you are the Son of God...” (Matthew 4:3). The disciples understood and confessed that Jesus was God in the flesh, the Messiah (Matthew 16:16).
God the Father formed the human body for God the Son to possess; however, this does not imply that God propagated or created the Son (Hebrews 10:5). Great is the mystery of godliness, God was manifested in flesh (1 Timothy 3:16).
The one who is an overcomer believes that Jesus is God. He does not believe that Jesus is a god, nor one who is born from God, nor merely a man. These beliefs are pushed by predominant false religious leaders who do not possess victory over the world because they do not believe in the one true Jesus.
Jesus is God in the flesh, the second person of the Godhead, revealed to us as God the Son, for He has always been with God the Father and is God (John 1:1 In a beginning continually was the Word, and the Word was facing the God, and the Word was Deity). He wrapped Himself in flesh and dwelt among us, displaying the exact character of God, for He is God (Philippians 2:8; Hebrews 1:3). Therefore, the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God has victory over the world.
