Biblical Meaning of Resurrection: Why Christ's Rising Changes Everything

Pastor Luther Walker teaches on the biblical meaning of resurrection as standing again—being physically raised to a new, immortal condition no longer subject to death, distinct from mere resuscitation like Lazarus. He contrasts the Sadducees, who rejected the resurrection, with the Pharisees who affirmed it, noting Paul’s own Pharisee background. Scripture foretold Christ’s resurrection on the third day, with His body not seeing corruption. Christ was delivered for our trespasses and raised for our justification, proving His sacrifice was accepted. Without the resurrection, faith is vain; Christ is the firstfruits of those who will rise. Over 500 witnesses saw the risen Christ. Intellectuals and philosophers often reject or modify the gospel, adding works-based elements, but true salvation is by believing Christ died for sins and was raised. All will be resurrected—some to life, some to judgment. By Christ’s single stripe (His spiritual death on the cross), we are healed and reconciled to God. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of the singular sin of unbelief in Christ. There is no other name by which we can be saved.
