Daniel 2:13–14 | Daniel's Faith Saves The Wise Men
Memory Verse
And the decree went out and they began to kill the wise men. And they sought Daniel and his companions to put them to death. Then Daniel with counsel and wisdom answered Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who went out to kill the wise men of Babylon (Daniel 2:13–14).
After the engravers, conjurers, and sorcerers could not provide the content of the king’s dream and its interpretation, Nebuchadnezzar order them to be killed. All of the wise men of Babylon were to be killed because their failure showed they had no real ability to perceive mysteries nor direct access to the gods.
When Arioch came to slay Daniel and his companions, Daniel asked him why the decree was so urgent (Daniel 2:15). After Arioch declared to Daniel why the decision was made, Daniel went in to the king to speak with him. He asked Nebuchadnezzar to give him time so that he could reveal the interpretation of the dream to him.
None of the other wise men of Babylon even dared to suggest they could know the dream and interpret it, but God had given Daniel the ability to interpret visions and dreams (Daniel 1:7). Therefore, Daniel and his companions sought compassion from God concerning this secret to save them from the hand of Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 2:17–18).
God responded to their inquiry and revealed to Daniel the dream in a night vision (Daniel 2:18–32). With the understanding of the dream and its interpretation, Daniel informs Arioch and is quickly taken before the king (Daniel 2:24–25).
