Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might (Ephesians 6:10).
In 1 Peter 5:8–9, Peter exhorts the saints to resist the devil by the faith. In Ephesians 6:10, Paul begins to lay out the doctrine (the faith) by which we have victory over Satan. It begins with being strengthened by the inherent might that Christ possesses, not our own. We must align our thinking with the truth concerning who we are in Christ and what He has accomplished.
In Genesis 3:5, God made a promise to Satan, who was behind the serpent that persuaded Eve to transgress the law of the garden. The seed of the woman would crush his head. Christ, born of a virgin, fulfilled exactly what God had declared would happen. Satan, in his wisdom, put Christ to death, not realizing that by this very act, he ensured his own downfall (1 Corinthians 2:8). In raising Christ from the dead, God seated Him above all principalities and authorities, thus removing Satan from the position he had usurped and securing victory over him (Ephesians 1:21).
Therefore, our strength over Satan does not rely on our own ability, but on the might of Christ’s strength, who has granted us victory over him through His resurrection.
With our minds set properly—seeing things as they truly are—we are now able to stand firm against Satan by putting on the armor of God.
