Genesis 10:25
Memory Verse
And to Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg because in his days the earth was divided; and the name of his brother was Joktan, Genesis 10:25.
In the genealogy of Shem, in the fourth generation, Peleg, the son of Eber, was born. He received his name because of the division of the earth in his days. The tower of Babel, described in Genesis chapter 11, not only resulted in the division of the language of men, but also in the sudden division of the continents. Both of these divisions forced men to separate and spread across the earth according to the instructions God gave Noah and his sons (Genesis 9:7).
Job, the son of Joktan, Peleg’s brother, is from the line of Shem. He lived after the division of the continents (Genesis 10:29). We know from geological stacking that the division of the continents was not a slow process.
Although there is speculation that the division in Peleg’s days refers to the language of men, Scripture states that the earth was divided. In addition, Scripture describes the language of man being confused so they could not understand one another, not divided (Genesis 11:7).
