And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so (Genesis 1:14–15).
On the fourth day, after causing the earth to bring forth all manner of fruit, vegetables, and herbs, God created the measurement of time. He made two great lights to give light upon the firmament, along with the stars. These lights serve as indicators of time, by which the passing of days and the succession of seasons are determined.
