And Adam said, “This is now bone from my bone and flesh from my flesh; she will be called woman because from man she was taken.” (Genesis 2:23).
Adam recognizes what God has done in building Eve from his side. She is bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. Thus, when a man and woman come together, they become one flesh (Genesis 2:24). She is the companion that perfectly fits man, a helpmate standing before him.
The woman is the glory of man. Man was not created for the woman, but the woman for the man. For this reason, the woman’s hair serves as a covering for her, symbolizing the authority she is under. Nevertheless, a man is not independent from a woman, nor the woman from the man, for just as the woman came from the man, thus so the man comes through the woman (1 Corinthians 11:7-11). Therefore, from the very beginning, the husband and wife enter a relationship of equality in which the man serves as the head and the woman is his helpmate, standing before him and serving as the despot of the household (1 Timothy 5:14).
