Genesis 3:16
Memory Verse
To the woman, He said, “Multiplying, I will multiply your sorrow and conception. In pain you will bear sons and your longing will be unto your husband, and he will rule over you (Genesis 3:16).
The penalty upon the woman because of Eve’s transgression is fivefold. Her sorrow will be multiplied. This multiplication of sorrow refers to the sorrow a mother feels because of her children. Her time of conception will increase, allowing her to produce more children. Childbirth will be painful. She will have a longing for her husband—a strong desire for a man to hold the position of her husband (cf. Genesis 4:7, the sin nature’s desire for us). And her husband will rule over her, having dominion over her.
