Genesis 3:23–24
Memory Verse
And the LORD God sent him from the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. And He drove out Adam, and He caused the Cherubim to dwell from the east of the garden of Eden, with a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of lives (Genesis 3:23–24).
Adam and Eve are driven out of the Garden of Eden to till the ground for their food. As long as they stayed within the garden, their food would be provided for them, and they could partake from the tree of lives, which would prolong their physical life.
To prevent anyone from coming back into the Garden of Eden, the Lord placed Cherubim at the east. There are three ranks of spirit beings: Cherubim (Ezekiel 1:4–24), Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2), and Angels (Hebrews 1:14; Job 38:7). Spirit being do not challenge those in authority; this includes those who have fallen into sin, whereas corrupt humans speak false things about dignitaries (2 Peter 2:11). Cherubim are the highest rank of spirit being, set above the angels in God’s government. Lucifer is of the rank of a Cherub (Ezekiel 28:14) and is the only one to fall into sin. Therefore, other Cherubim were placed at the entrance of the garden of Eden to prevent him or any of his demons from entering and taking from the tree of lives. In addition to the Cherubim, a flaming sword guards the entrance from any humans attempting to enter.
