Genesis 4:8
Memory Verse
And Cain spoke with his brother Abel, and it came to pass when they were in the field that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him (Genesis 4:8).
Abel’s offering by faith was a more excellent offering than Cain brought (Hebrews 11:4). When Cain offered the works of his hands rather than faith, it was because he was following Satan. Cain responded to God’s rejection of his offering and his conversation with his brother—who was a prophet (Luke 11:51)—by slaying his brother, who was righteous in his actions, as a sacrifice (1 John 3:12).
For this is the message which we heard from the beginning, in order that you love one another. Not as Cain, who was out from the malignantly evil one and slew as a sacrifice his brother. And why did he slay his brother as a sacrifice? Because his works were malignantly evil, but his brother’s were righteous (1 John 3:11–12).
Certain men have crept into the assemblies today that follow the way of Cain (Jude 11). They bring in destructive heresies, speak blasphemies concerning things they do not understand, and corrupt themselves. The way of Cain is to follow Satan and thus brings in the teachings of demons while giving heed to deceiving spirits (1 Timothy 4:1).
