Genesis 6:7–8
Memory Verse
And the LORD said, “I will wipe out man, whom I created, from upon the face of the earth, from man until beast, until creeping things and until birds of the air, because I am moved with pity that I made them.” And Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD, Genesis 6:7–8.
God does not feel remorse, disappointment, or is sorry about creating man. Sorry, נחם (niḥēm) is a word that means to be moved with pity: console from sorrow or compassion. God is not going to permit the wickedness of humans to continue. This is an act of pity upon mankind.
Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. His line was not corrupted by the demons, nor did it go after the way of Cain. He was found to be complete, fully human, in a time when all flesh was corrupting its ways (Genesis 6:12). Instead of seeking after wrong, Noah walked with God. Therefore, he and his sons, along with their wives, would be saved from the destruction that is coming upon the earth due to the wickedness and exploitation of humans.
By faith, Noah prepared the ark (Hebrews 11:7). While he built the ark, he proclaimed righteousness to the ungodly (2 Peter 2:5). During this period, God was long-suffering, ultimately saving eight souls from the destruction to come (1 Peter 3:20). This demonstrates that God knows how to save the godly while reserving the unrighteous for judgment (2 Peter 2:9).
