Hebrew 5:5–6
Memory Verse
Thus also Christ did not glorify Himself to become a High Priest, but the saying towards Him, “You are My Son, Today, I have begotten You.” Just as also in another it says, “You are a priest into the age according to the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:5–6.
Just as priests from men do not take on this glory of their own accord, Christ was also appointed to the position of a High Priest. God the Father prepared a body for God the Son (Hebrews 10:5; Luke 1:35).
The term “begotten” is not restricted in use to only being physically born. Beget may also denote what is produced, caused to arise, or brought forth. Beget carries the sense of causation. Paul begot the Corinthian saints in Christ Jesus through the gospel (1 Corinthians 4:15). Foolish and ignorant disputes beget quarrels (2 Timothy 2:23). God the Father sent the Son, thereby begetting His human body, for the Son has always existed with the Father (John 1:1).
God the Father beget Christ as a priest according to the order of Melchizedek, not according to the Levitical order (Psalm 110:3). Moses did not speak of a priestly order from Judah (Hebrews 7:14). Since the priesthood for the Christian does not relate to the Levitical order, neither can the Mosaic law pertain to the grace believer (Hebrews 7:12).
