Hebrews 1:1–2
Memory Verse
The God, who spoke long ago in many portions and in various manners to the fathers by the prophets, upon these last days has spoken to us by a Son, whom he set heir of all things, through whom also he made the ages (Hebrews 1:1–2).
Throughout Israel’s history, God spoke to the Jews in many ways, giving them portions of revelation concerning what the future holds. Through the prophets, He foretold of a prophet who would rise like Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15). A man from the line of David who would rule from David’s throne (2 Samuel 7:12–13). This man would take away the sins of the people and bring in a righteous kingdom (Isaiah 53:5).
This one is not just any son, but the one through whom the ages were made. Ages are periods in which God shows something to intelligent beings—humans are not the only intelligent beings in the universe—about Himself. Ages do not relate to time. Before the creation of man, we know there were three ages: creation of the universe (Genesis 1:1; Job 38:7), reign of Lucifer (Ezekiel 28:14), chaotic period–the fall of Lucifer (Genesis 1:2; Ezekiel 28:17–18). After the seven dispensations of man, there will be ages of the ages (Ephesians 2:7). The Son, through whom he is speaking, is the one who made the ages.
