Hebrews 1:3
Memory Verse
who being [the] brightness of the proper opinion and character of His essence, even bearing all things by the utterance of His inherent ability, through Himself making a cleansing for our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high (Hebrews 1:3).
The Son, who made the ages, wrapped Himself in flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). During His time on earth, He displayed the exact character of God, for He came to do the will of God the Father (Hebrews 10:7).
Today, the god of this age blinds the conclusions of the minds of those who do not believe, lest the proper opinion of Christ shine in their hearts (2 Corinthians 4:4). The word “shine” comes from the same root as “brightness” expressed in Hebrews chapter one verse three. This shining or brightness manifests truth.
Through Christ, the essence of God was fully displayed. Essence is the underlying substance of a being. God’s essence is Spirit, a substance the human eye cannot see (John 4:24; John 1:18).
After Christ’s resurrection, resulting in the new creation in which Christ is the head, and the Church is His body, those in Christ can now manifest a quality of the divine nature because Christ dwells in them (Ephesians 3:17; Romans 8:9; 2 Peter 1:3–4). Therefore, when we are feeling at ease in Christ, we stand as luminaries to our generation, showing forth the life of Christ in us, thereby expressing a proper opinion of God through our actions (Philippians 2:15).
