Hebrews 2:3
Memory Verse
How will we escape, while neglecting so great a salvation, which at first we received, spoken through the word of the Lord, confirmed to us by those who heard? (Hebrews 2:3)
In the letter of Hebrews, Paul addresses the Jews in Jerusalem who believed that Jesus is the Messiah and was raised from the dead, but were rejecting grace and abiding by the Law (Acts 21:20). Christ fulfilled many prophecies by coming in the flesh, dying for sins, and His resurrection on the third day. He is the One God promised to give a kingdom that would not end. Therefore, we must diligently heed the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
The words spoken by messengers proved to be steadfast, and every transgression of the law and disobedience received just reward. Based on this evidence, how can someone escape who rejects such a large salvation? A salvation brought to us first through the words of the Lord, witnessed by God through many signs, wonders, miracles, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, and confirmed by those who heard it.
Let us not also fall into the same trap, seeking to be justified by any quality of law while setting aside the grace of God.
