James 1:21
Memory Verse
For this reason, lay aside all filthiness and abundance of wrong, having received with objectivity of mind the implanted Word, the one inherently able to save your souls (James 1:21).
Since the wrath of man does not work out the righteousness of God, let us lay aside all filthiness and wrong. Filthiness relates to the defilement of the flesh by the sin nature (Revelation 22:11; 1 Peter 3:21). Wrong involves doing things that lack in character. As those who belong to God, along with deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and speaking down to others, doing wrong is to be laid aside (1 Peter 2:1–2). We are to put off wrath and doing wrong by putting on the new man (Colossians 3:8–10). Since we are the children of the light, let us walk as in the day, rejecting the unfruitful works of darkness.
The word of God, which we have received, is now implanted in us. Let us set our minds on the things related to our salvation and not allow our focus to be shifted—maintaining an objective mind. This word can save us from our emotions and ensure we are not overreacting in our wrath, sinning, or doing wrong.
