James 2:12
Memory Verse
Thus speak and thus do as those about to be judged through the law of liberty (James 2:12).
After pointing out that partiality even violates the Royal law (The Mosaic Law), and violating even one part of the law makes a man a transgressor of the law, James then encourages the early Church to speak and act in a manner as those who are judged by the law of liberty.
The law of liberty is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ that sets us free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). Under this standard, we are to love one another as Christ loved us (John 13:34). A man that sets himself up as a discerner of others based upon their appearance, becomes a judge of malignantly evil reasonings (James 2:4). Such a one is not loving his brother; instead, he is judging him.
We are to judge actions (1 Corinthians 6:5), but are not to set ourselves up as judges of the intentions of the heart, usurping Christ’s position. Only Christ can discern the determinations of the heart (1 Corinthians 4:5). Therefore, let us love the brethren, fulfilling the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus by walking by the Spirit, and set aside partiality, which has no place among the saints.
