James 4:4
Memory Verse
Adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity of God? Therefore, whoever determines to be a friend of the world establishes himself an enemy of God (James 4:4).
Satan designed the world system, and it follows the pattern that he has set forth (Ephesians 2:2). The love of the Father is not in the world (1 John 2:16); thus, the grace believer is not to involve himself with the things of the world (1 Corinthians 7:31).
The world system is a subtle enemy to the Christian. It is indifferent to grace believers; therefore, it will appear friendly when it gains a benefit for its own purposes (John 15:18–the original word translated as “hate” expresses “indifference”, not an intense aversion or extreme dislike). Christian can easily fall into the traps of the world system and be distracted from living a life of righteousness. These types of distractions are especially seen in assemblies that seek to please unbelievers, support the community through free events, ensure their worship services are modern and attractive to the young, all while ignoring doctrine and caring for the saints.
We live in this world, but let us not abuse it. Instead, let us live as luminaries to those around us, showing them the light of Christ through our proper conduct.
