But these, as much as they do not know they blasphemy, and as much as they stand upon pertaining to nature as the unreasoning creatures, by these they are ruined (Jude 10).
Jude continues to describe the men who have stealthily crept into the Church, turning the grace of God into licentiousness. In contrast to the angels, who will not make a judgment of blasphemy against a high-ranking being, these men and women have no issue with falsely attributing characteristics to things they possess no intuitive knowledge about. Not only do they speak false things about dignitaries, but because of them the way of the truth is blasphemed (2 Peter 2:2).
The truth that they blaspheme is the doctrine by which we have victory over sin in our lives. Paul lays it out in Romans chapter six. Know that we have died with Christ and are raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4–6). Reckon our immersion into the body of Christ as true (Romans 6:11). Yield our members for righteousness (Romans 6:13). There is no law involved in victory over sin. Instead, by counting God’s word to be true, we live out this new life we have in Christ by walking according to the desires from the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16). False teachers falsely attribute methodologies to overcome the flesh.
Blasphemy, at its root, is to speak in a harmful manner. When these men who have crept in speak in this manner concerning things they do not know of, they are detrimental to the truth and proper doctrine. They focus on emotional gratification as though they are unreasoning beasts (2 Peter 2:12). Through their teachings many are led astray and their faith shipwrecked. They profess to know God, but deny Him, are abominable, unpersuaded, and disqualified from every good work (Titus 1:5).
