Psalm 15:1 | Who Dwells on God’s Holy Mountain?

Memory Verse

A psalm of David. LORD, who will sojourn in Your tabernacle? Who will dwell on Your holy mountain? (Psalm 15:1)

In the fifteenth psalm, David describes those who sojourn in the Lord’s tabernacle and dwell on His mountain. Those who walk upright conduct their lives with integrity as they pursue righteousness. The one who speaks truth in his heart (Psalm 15:2). These are the ones who do not backbite with their tongue—spy out and inform others about what another is doing. They do not do that which causes calamity to their neighbors, nor take up a reproach against a friend (Psalm 15:3).

The vile person is rejected in the eyes of the one who dwells in the mountain of God. Even the one who swears to his own hurt but does not change. Rather, he honors those who fear the LORD (Psalm 15:4). Those who sojourn in the tabernacle of God do not lend money with interest to their countrymen, nor take a bride against the innocent (Exodus 22:25). The one who does these things is not shaken (Psalm 15:5).

In contrast to David’s words, Christians do not sojourn in the tabernacle of the LORD because they are the Temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Church is being built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood (1 Peter 2:5). Therefore, those who practice the truth—the doctrine for victory over the sin nature—continue in fellowship with God (1 John 1:7). They abhor malignant evil and cling to what is good (Romans 12:9).

Since a Christian is not under the Mosaic law, his obligation is to owe no one anything except love towards fellow saints (Romans 13:8; John 15:12). He is to do good in all manner of his life, especially to those who are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10). For the one who does the desirous will of God feels at ease into the age (1 John 2:17).
