Psalm 1:6
Memory Verse
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, and the way of the wicked vanishes (Psalm 1:6).
The Israelite who delighted in the law of the LORD, muttered the law under his breath all day and night to ensure remembrance and adherence (Psalm 1:2). This man was like a tree planted by the river, bringing forth fruit in its season. This one prospered in all his ways (Psalm 1:3).
In contrast, the man who does not walk in the way of the wicked stands apart from those who are wicked, who are driven by the wind as chaff (Psalm 1:4). Their ways are unstable in all they do. They will not stand in the day of judgment, nor will sinners stand in the congregation of the righteous (Psalm 1:5).
Similarly, within the Church today, there are those who have crept in who turn the grace of God into licentiousness–a lifestyle lacking moral and sensual restraint with shameful excess. These men who quietly sneak in are like clouds without water carried about by the winds (Jude 12). They teach all manner of methodologies to obtain favor and use the trickery of men to deceive the saints. Those who follow their path bring ruin into their lives and slavery to corruption–the inability to overcome the desires from the sin nature (2 Peter 2:19; 2 Timothy 3:6).
Therefore, the righteous man today still follows the way of the Lord. This is not obedience to the Mosaic law. Christ is an end to the law for all who believe (Romans 10:4; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4). The righteous live out from faith (Romans 1:17). The law is not out from faith (Galatians 3:12). In Christ, we have all things pertaining to life and godliness; therefore, rather than muttering the law under our breath day and night, we are to set our minds on the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1–4). This one will walk in the way of the Spirit, thereby overcoming the desires from the flesh (Galatians 5:16–17). By taking each step by the Spirit, he will produce peace and eternal life in his conduct (Romans 8:6).
