Romans 3:3
Memory Verse
For what? Since some did not believe, will their unbelief render idle the faithfulness of God? (Romans 3:3).
What advantage does a Jew have over a Gentile? The Jew who thinks that he rests upon the law and makes his boast in God will be condemned by the uncircumcised who follow the law while he is not (Romans 3:26–27). Thus, salvation among the Jews was never about being circumcised in the flesh, but about being circumcised in the heart, based on their faith in God (Romans 2:28–29). The advantage to the Jews is then only that they are the ones who received the oracles of God (Romans 3:2).
However, some did not believe. Unlike gods and superheroes made from the imagination of men who cease to exist when those who made them up stop believing in them, God’s existence and Word do not rely upon the belief of men. God gave an unconditional covenant to Abram concerning land for his descendants (Genesis 15:18–21). The unbelief of some of the Jews did not render God’s faithfulness idle as they sought to be righteous through their works. God will fulfill His promise to Abram. Israel will possess the entire land from the river of Egypt to the great Euphrates.
God’s faithfulness does not depend upon the belief of men in Him or His Word. Rather, God is true, and every man who contradicts Him is the liar (Romans 3:4). It already stands written that God will be justified in His words and will overcome when He judges (Romans 3:5).
