Because of this, just as through one man, the sin entered the world and through the sin the death also thus unto all men the death passed, on the basis that all sinned (Romans 5:12).
Physical death is the result of Adam’s sin. God told Adam that on the day he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he would bring death upon himself.
“And the Lord God commanded unto Adam saying, ‘From all the trees of the garden, eating you will eat, but from the tree of the knowledge of good (beneficial) and evil (calamity) you will not eat from it because in the day you eat from it, dying you will die.’” (Genesis 2:16–17).
As the head of the human race, Adam’s actions affected all his descendants (Genesis 5:3).
Our physical death is not the result of an individual’s personal sin, for death passed to all men on the basis that all sinned in Adam. Thus, sin entered the world through Adam, and through sin came death to all. Therefore, in Adam all are condemned, for it is now appointed unto all men to die, and after this, the judgment for their works (Hebrews 9:27).
