And law, having entered, in order that the trespass should abound; moreover, where the sin [nature] abounded, the grace super abounded in order that just as the sin [nature] reigned by the death, thus also the grace should reign through righteousness because of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:20–21).
The Mosaic Law was given to expose the sin nature for what it truly is (Romans 7:7). However, where the sin nature abounded because law gives it strength (1 Corinthians 15:56), grace super abounded, rendering the sin nature ineffective in Christ.
Grace, which is God’s attitude whereby He gives us a benefit without consideration of merit, enables us to live righteously. We do this by applying the truth. We have died with Christ and have been co-raised to walk in newness of life. We possess a renewed spirit that longs for righteousness. When we seek out and follow the desires from the Holy Spirit, Who now indwells us, the sin nature cannot bring its desires to fulfillment, no matter how hard it tries.
In Christ, we are now free to live out righteousness in every aspect of life.
