For I (new nature) intuitively know that dwelling in me, that is in my flesh, is no good. For the desirous will is present with me (new nature), but the working out of the proper, it is not found (Romans 7:18).
Through our new nature comes the realization that nothing good can come out from our flesh. Although we desire to do what is good, the ability to work out what is proper is not found in the flesh. Instead of producing the good we desire, the sin nature deceives us and works out all manner of its strong desires.
However, we have died to the sin nature, having been immersed into Christ’s death, so that we too might walk in newness of life. This newness life is not based upon law, for the law gives strength to the sin nature. Rather, it is a life that seeks after and fulfills the desires from the Spirit, resulting in the freedom to act righteously in all things. Righteousness, then, is not based upon law but upon who we are in Christ. When we are living out the new life we have in Christ, we will not violate any law, for there is no law against the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23).
