But the sin taking an opportunity through the commandment, worked out in me all manner of craving; for apart from law, sin is dead (Romans 7:8).
Law does not work out life; rather, it gives the sin nature an opportunity to work out its cravings in us, instead of suppressing its desires. Apart from law, we have freedom. However, we are not to use our freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Instead, in seeking the best for other grace believers, we serve one another (Galatians 5:13).
The standard for a grace believer is faith. All who are righteous live out from faith (Romans 1:16). This means the source of our actions comes from taking God at His word. Therefore, since God states that we have died in Christ to sin—rendering it ineffective and no longer our master—so that we may walk in newness of life, our attitude must attribute these truths to ourselves. As a result, we no longer obey the desires from our old nature but yield our members to righteousness, apart from using law. Law is not out from faith (Galatians 3:12). The one who does the law lives by it (Romans 10:5). It is a child-trainer to bring those under law to faith in Christ, not to produce righteous men (Galatians 3:24). Faith produces freedom to live out the righteousness we have in Christ, for in doing so, we do not violate any aspect of law.
