Likewise, indeed also, the Spirit helps in our weakness. For we do not intuitively know what thing it is necessary for ourselves to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes on our behalf with inexpressible groaning. And the one who examines the heart intuitively knows what is the frame of mind of the spirit, because according to God, He intercedes on behalf of the saints (Romans 8:26–27).
The new relationship we have in Christ with God does not rely upon our five senses. We are now indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit means that we are directly connected to God in our spirits. This enables us to receive and understand the things of God in a rational, logical sense.
Because of the relationship we now have with the Holy Spirit, He knows our frame of mind through examining our hearts—the center of our being. Therefore, when we do not know what is necessary to communicate to God, the Holy Spirit intercedes with God on our behalf through groanings within us—the righteous desires within us that strongly desire to be fulfilled.
When we find ourselves in unexpected situations, we should pay attention to the desires we have from the Holy Spirit, for He is interceding on our behalf.
